Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is grateful to an anonymous patient who generously donated $20,000 to benefit the hospital’s Diabetes & Endocrinology Center after receiving excellent and compassionate care. The gift will support a Diabetes Boot Camp Program designed to educate patients on reducing diabetes-related complications, maintaining good health, and managing their disease.

“Our Diabetes Boot Camp was previously a successful annual event that was unfortunately paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” shared John J. Capobianco, Senior vice president, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Thanks to this anonymous gift, we can continue the program and increase access and equity in our region for patients with diabetes. Our hospital’s leadership, philanthropy, and diabetes and endocrinology teams are thrilled to relaunch this initiative and provide another valuable service to our community.”

“We are deeply grateful for this unexpected and incredibly generous gift,” shared Egils Bogdanovics, MD, Endocrinologist at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Living with and managing diabetes can be challenging—both emotionally and financially—and this gift will be put to great use as we continue our work educating patients with diabetes.”

“It is always particularly special when gifts to our hospital come from grateful patients who want to thank their caregivers for the excellent care they received,” shared Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Our Diabetes and Endocrinology Team—led by Dr. Egils Bogdanovics—are great philanthropic champions for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and it is extremely gratifying that Dr. Bogdanovics and our colleagues Lois Pelletier, Diabetes Management Coordinator, and Nancianne Malahan, Office Manager, have been acknowledged for their incredible work and kindness in this most appropriate and generous manner.”

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Diabetes & Endocrinology Center operates an American Diabetes Association-recognized program designed to help people manage diabetes—including insulin pump training, weight loss programs, carbohydrate counting classes, blood glucose awareness training, and continuous glucose monitoring.
