The Auxiliary for Community Health generously donated $18,729 to the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Cardiac Rehab Center in Winsted to support the purchase of four new rehabilitation treadmills.

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program is a comprehensive outpatient service that focuses on lifestyle modification, supervised exercise, and education to empower patients with healthy living techniques. This type of rehabilitation is essential in preventing the progression of coronary artery disease, aiding in recovery post-heart attack or cardiac surgery, stabilizing cholesterol levels, and reducing blood pressure.

Throughout 2023, the Winsted Cardiac Rehab Program facilitated 5,000 total patient exercise sessions, with an average visit duration of one hour, three times per week.

The Auxiliary for Community Health operates a volunteer-run thrift store on Willow Street in Winsted, where all proceeds benefit the health-related needs of local nonprofit organizations.

“We are deeply grateful to the Auxiliary for Community Health for partnering with us and supporting our Cardiac Rehab Center’s tailored exercise therapy,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy. “Cardiac rehabilitation significantly reduces the risk of a heart attack and also helps individuals establish and maintain heart-healthy habits, which are essential for long-term heart health and overall well-being. This investment in new fitness equipment will not only improve our capabilities and care, it will also improve the quality of life for many patients in the Winsted community.”
