Charlotte Hungerford Hospital celebrated the renovation and opening of the new home for the Center for Youth & Families’ Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospital Program (PHP) during a special ribbon-cutting ceremony in September 2025.
The renovation of a 4,500-square-foot building adjacent to the Center was funded by the Robert R. Rosenheim Pet Therapy & Restorative Healing Program for Youth and Families, which was established through a $1 million grant awarded to the Center for Youth & Families by the Robert R. Rosenheim Foundation in 2023.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous philanthropic support of the Robert R. Rosenheim Foundation and the many friends and colleagues of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital who helped to make this vision a reality,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Before the renovation, Adolescent IOP/PHP patients sought care in the main hospital building, in the same space as adult patients.
“With the opening of this building and relocation of our Adolescent IOP/PHP services, we have finally unified the entirety of our Center programs and operations into one location,” said Paul J. Scalise, MD, Interim Senior Vice President of Operations for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the Northwest Region. “This major investment will provide a more welcoming and convenient campus-like environment for our patients and families, allow us to share staff resources more effectively, and enable increased service days for the communities depending on our expert care.”
“This new space is really a game-changer and another example of Hartford HealthCare’s commitment to enhancing access to our compassionate care and prioritizing mental health and family services,” added Bender. “As the only accredited Child Advocacy Center in northwest Connecticut, providing more service days and an enhanced patient experience will greatly benefit local children and families experiencing emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges.”
