The 24th annual Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Golf Classic raised a record-breaking $316,000 for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute, which will enable the hospital’s investment in a Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (LINAC).
The LINAC is a next-generation system capable of delivering faster, safer, and more accurate radiation therapy to patients with a wide range of cancers, underscoring Hartford HealthCare’s commitment to accessible, world-class care in northwest Connecticut.
This year’s tournament also served as a platform for honoring the legacy of John J. Capobianco, the hospital’s longtime leader who sadly passed in 2025. Paul J. Scalise, MD, President of Hartford HealthCare’s Northwest Region, announced the establishment of the Capobianco Cup, which will now be presented each year to the Golf Classic’s winning team.
“This is our first Golf Classic without John,” said Dr. Scalise, as he thanked attendees for their strong support of the hospital. “His memory will live on through this tournament and the indelible mark he has left on Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, our colleagues, and healthcare in northwest Connecticut.”
Bill Zampaglione, VP of Real Estate, PAC Group, served as Honorary Golf Chair for the fourth consecutive year; PAC Group served as the tournament’s Title Sponsor.
“Because of the incredible generosity of our sponsors, supporters, and volunteers, this has been a truly historic year for this tournament,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Together, we are advancing leading-edge technology that will transform cancer care in our community and ensure patients can receive the highest quality treatment close to home.”
