Rachael Hart Rindflesh, a member of the New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department, was inspired to help local breast cancer patients after watching a close friend bravely and successfully overcome her illness. The friend, who lives in North Carolina, underwent a double mastectomy and a lengthy treatment process—but thankfully, she is now in remission.
Rachael knew of many others within her community also impacted by breast cancer, so she decided to take action. She approached her colleagues at the New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department with the idea of a pink t-shirt fundraiser. Nikki Rivard—a fellow volunteer, generous Charlotte Hungerford Hospital supporter, and employee at Sister’s Oil—recommended donating the funds to the hospital’s Pink Rose Fund. With the department’s full support, the fundraiser proved to be a success by raising over $632, while also promoting local breast cancer awareness.
“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is incredibly grateful to Rachael and our friends at the New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department for their dedicated service to our shared community, support of local breast cancer patients, and commitment to the safety and well-being of our region,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Thanks to their fundraising efforts, the Pink Rose Fund is better positioned to provide women of northwest Connecticut comprehensive and coordinated access to breast cancer screenings and treatment.”
