Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is grateful to honor and preserve the legacy of U.S. Navy Sailor Thatcher Judson Rupert of Winsted through a permanent endowed fund dedicated to compassion, service, and hope.

The Thatcher Judson Rupert Pathways to Care Endowment Fund was launched through a six-figure gift from friends who created the fund. This generous investment will support clinical education, specialized training, mentorship, and community engagement initiatives that advance excellence in mental healthcare.

The Rupert Pathways to Care Endowment Fund will strengthen the hospital’s Rural Residency Programs in Family Medicine and Psychiatry. These programs train residents from Quinnipiac University’s Frank Netter School of Medicine who are committed to serving rural and underserved communities in northwest Connecticut.

The endowment will recruit expert speakers, enhance professional development for residents and clinicians, address shortages in the region’s mental health workforce, and promote mental health awareness and outreach.

“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is grateful and privileged to honor Thatcher Judson Rupert’s life and carry his remarkable spirit forward through this transformative gift,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “This enduring tribute will permanently weave Thatcher’s legacy into our Rural Residency Programs and significantly improve access to high-quality mental healthcare within the region he called home for generations to come.”
