The Northwest CT Community Foundation Draper Foundation Fund generously awarded a $32,200 grant to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in support of the hospital’s Diaper Connections Program, which provides a free annual supply of diapers to 100 babies in need.

“We are so grateful to the Northwest CT Community Foundation and the Draper Foundation Fund for their strong and consistent support of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and the patients and families we serve,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy. “Institutional giving plays a major role in our ability to deliver the best, most accessible, and equitable healthcare, education, aid, and services to our community.”

“Thanks to this grant and the presence of our Diaper Connections Program, we will help local babies remain healthy and safe during a vulnerable time in their development,” Bender continued. “Diapers can be a burdensome expense for young families facing financial barriers—and we are so pleased to assist 100 children over the next year through the Draper Foundation Fund’s philanthropic support.”

More than 30% of families in Connecticut have difficulty affording a sufficient supply of diapers for their children and they are not covered by SNAP or WIC programs. Diaper need affects a family’s ability to go to work and school and threatens the health of a family by increasing the likelihood of maternal depression, parental stress, and diaper rash in infants and children.
