Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is grateful to Gengras Subaru Torrington for supporting our Pet Therapy Program at the Center for Youth & Families through their 2025 Subaru Share the Love event.

Throughout the holiday season, $400 from every Subaru vehicle sale was donated to local nonprofits, with $14,642 donated in support of Charlotte Hungerford’s mission.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Center for Youth & Families is a Child Advocacy Center and professional mental health service that assists northwest Connecticut children, adolescents, and their families with emotional, behavioral, developmental, and family difficulties. Launched in 2023, the Center’s Pet Therapy Program integrates a hypoallergenic certified therapy dog—lovingly known throughout the community as Dani the Therapy Dog—into its therapy sessions, emergency responses, and medical evaluations.

Dani and her partner, Kevin Tieman, a trained Children Trauma Response Coordinator, also assist with court testimonies, forensic interviews, and community outreach efforts on behalf of the hospital and the communities we serve.

Research shows that the presence of a therapy animal can reduce anxiety and stress, foster trust, and create a safe, supportive environment, benefiting both patients and clinical staff. Thanks to Gengras Subaru Torrington’s philanthropic investment, we can ensure ongoing emotional support and meaningful connections for young patients, families, and caregivers.
