Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Just for the Halibut is ready to fight against the tide and cancer as swim captain Brian Mattiello, Senior System Director for Social Impact, Strategy, and Integration, prepares to lead his team to the 38th Swim Across the Sound on August 2, 2025.

Each summer, teams of swimmers cross the Long Island Sound from Port Jefferson, NY, to Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, CT, to raise awareness and funds for cancer patients, their families, and programs and services that help them focus on their health and healing.

Nearly forty teams will race across the Sound in 2025, and like countless individuals across the country, many of the swimmers have direct connections with loved ones diagnosed with cancer.

Just for the Halibut surpassed its fundraising goal in 2024 and raised an impressive $10,355, the first year Charlotte Hungerford Hospital sent a team to the annual shoreline event. The team has a fundraising goal of $7,500 for 2025.

This year’s team includes:

  • Brian Mattiello, Team Captain
  • Wendy Simoncelli
  • Adam Sobek
  • Annie Sobek
  • Sage Sobek
  • and John Wages
