Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is grateful to the Staub Family for generously creating the Charlie Staub Jr., JD, Sleep Wellness Fund through a gift to the hospital’s Sleep Care Center.

This newly launched fund will support several components of the Sleep Care Center—including their expert work in providing timely diagnoses, essential treatment, and compassionate care to those impacted by a sleep disorder. The Charlie Staub Jr., JD, Sleep Wellness Fund will also allow for the purchase of additional at-home sleep study devices, which monitor patients’ sleep patterns as they undergo sleep studies from the comfort of their own homes, and provide financial assistance to patients who are both in need and seeking treatment through the Sleep Care Center.

The Sleep Wellness Fund is named in honor of the Staub Family’s beloved son and brother, Charles Lincoln Hussey Staub, Jr., JD, who unexpectedly and sadly passed away at the age of 33 from complications related to sleep apnea. Charlie was an accomplished lawyer and athlete dearly loved by his family—and their wish is that the Charlie Staub Jr., JD. Sleep Wellness Fund will not only honor his memory but also help others with diagnosing and managing their sleep disorders.

Fifty million Americans live with a type of sleep disorder. One of the most common and well-known conditions is sleep apnea, where breathing temporarily and repeatedly stops during sleep. Sleep apnea can range from mild to severe, depending on how often you stop breathing, and puts patients at risk for developing other serious health issues—such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

“With the advancement of sleep studies and technology, our experts at the Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute Sleep Care Center can detect the root cause of sleep issues and create treatment plans that improve our patients’ sleep and prevent other concerning conditions from developing,” shared John Capobianco, Senior vice president of operations, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “We are extremely grateful for the Staub Family’s philanthropic support and for helping us to provide critical awareness to our region on the importance of diagnosing and managing sleep disorders.”

“The Staub Family’s gift and creation of the Charlie Staub Jr., JD, Sleep Wellness Fund represents a significant investment in both Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and our Sleep Care Center,” added Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “We are proud to help carry on Charlie’s legacy, as he will have a lasting impact on our community’s health and well-being for generations to come.”
