Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Philanthropy is grateful to announce a $1 million anonymous gift that will help support the purchase of a Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator for the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
Also known as a LINAC, the Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator is a next-generation radiation therapy system that delivers highly precise treatment for patients with a wide range of cancers. This significant investment by the hospital ensures that individuals and families in northwest Connecticut have access to advanced radiation care without the burden of traveling long distances. Equipped with detailed imaging and real-time tumor tracking, the system allows clinicians to target tumors accurately while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. This level of precision provides patients with safer, targeted treatments, reduced side effects, and shorter therapy times, all while ensuring access to the most advanced care close to home.
“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care and its expert oncology team are more than a convenience for northwest Connecticut, they are a lifeline,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “We are deeply grateful for this generous, anonymous gift, which will directly impact our patients and their families. This investment ensures patients receive high-quality, advanced care close to home, allowing them to stay in their community and maintain family life and daily routines throughout their treatment journey.”
Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care in Torrington treats over 250 patients annually and delivers 4,600 radiation oncology treatments each year, providing critical care and hope to patients throughout the region.
