For Margaret Noonan, MD, the best way to become a better emergency physician was to work at a true community hospital. It’s why she chose to practice at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is very community-focused, and it feels like a family,” shares Dr. Noonan, who also serves as the region’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director. “As one of only a few hospitals in northwest Connecticut, we serve a very big, rural region. People count on us and our Winsted location as their lifelines.”

Dr. Noonan’s role as EMS Medical Director helped her understand the people and healthcare needs deep within the communities she serves. According to her, the role was a calling she could not have anticipated.

“It’s been invigorating serving within EMS,” says Dr. Noonan. “Local volunteer services work in tandem with Charlotte Hungerford paramedics, who bring emergency care directly to residents in their time of need. They can do pretty much anything in the field, which is important because early action is critical. I am so grateful for our EMS team and always impressed with their performance and dedication.”

In addition to her medical leadership, Dr. Noonan supports Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s mission through her philanthropy. She serves as a committee member for the annual Golf Classic, the hospital’s signature fundraising event, and became a 1916 Society member after generously including the hospital in her estate plans.

“Becoming involved philanthropically helped to knit everything together for me, which has been really nice,” shares Dr. Noonan. “I feel my life’s purpose is my connection to the people in my life…my family, my colleagues, and my patients. This hospital and community are my home, and I want to invest myself, my time, my energy, and my money in my home.”

“Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and northwest Connecticut are so lucky to benefit from the leadership, expertise, and generosity of Dr. Margaret Noonan,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy. “Her commitment to our mission and communities, as well as the future of our hospital, has had a profound impact on our ability to meet patients with the best care close to home.”
