Charlotte Hungerford Hospital was awarded a generous $25,000 grant in support of a new paramedic intercept vehicle by the Northwest CT Community Foundation Marion Wm. & Alice Edwards Fund, Khurshed Bhumgara Fund, Lucia Tuttle Fritz Fund, and Douglas and Janet Roberts Fund.
The hospital’s Paramedic Intercept Service serves over 40,000 northwest Connecticut residents, including rural communities with limited access to advanced emergency medical care, by providing advanced life support to the region’s volunteer ambulance units.
Outfitted with ICU-level equipment, paramedic intercept vehicles function as on-the-ground LIFE STARs, delivering critical pre-hospital care across a service area spanning 300-square-miles. The hospital’s expert paramedic team responds to a variety of emergencies year-round—including motor vehicle accidents, cardiac events, and strokes—and directs patients to the most appropriate specialized care, regardless of their ability to pay.
“Residents of northwest Connecticut absolutely depend on the strength, safety, and responsiveness of our Paramedic Intercept Service—it’s a vital, life-saving service for everyone who calls the northwest corner home,” said Debbie Bender, Director of Philanthropy at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.
“This new paramedic intercept vehicle will ensure uninterrupted access to advanced pre-hospital care for rural and underserved communities in northwest Connecticut,” she continued. “Our families and neighbors are much safer thanks to this important safety net and the philanthropic support of the Northwest CT Community Foundation Marion Wm. & Alice Edwards Fund, Khurshed Bhumgara Fund, Lucia Tuttle Fritz Fund, and Douglas and Janet Roberts Fund.”
